About Me

My name's Adam, I'm 30 and from the West Midlands region of England in the UK. I've been modelmaking and painting for around twenty years.Adam Bagley. Formerly Redditch, Worcestershire.
I remember becoming interested in the hobby by seeing my father's remote controlled Tamiya miltary models in action around the back garden. Add to this the heavy presence of models in films such as Star Wars and Jason and the Argonauts and TV series such as Doctor Who and Gerry Anderson's Captain Scarlet and it's easy to see why I got hooked.

I've come a long way since, learning through books, clubs and plenty of trial and error. I'm always happy to share my knowledge with others and I'm still as keen as ever to learn new things and to see how others approach their work. It's because of this that the HobbyShed modelling resource has been created with sharing in mind.

Visits

I often attend shows, events and exhibitions that may be of interest to the scale modeller. They can be great places to get yourself a bargain model kit or two, hunt for old, unusual or rare models, obtain reference material for modelling projects or chat with fellow modellers or knowledgeable experts.

I've detailed below some of the places I've been to within the UK. Click on the event for information and pictures! I hope my coverage encourages you to attend similar events near you if you don't already.

Check modelling magazines, local newspapers, the internet, model shops, libraries, etc. for similar events in your area.

IPMS Scale Modelworld
The International Centre. St Quentin Gate, Telford. Shropshire. UK.

Organised by the UK division of the International Plastic Modellers Society (IPMS), Scale Modelworld is widely regarded as the premier event of the year for modelmakers.

Eastnor Model & Hobbies Spectacular
Deer Park/Eastnor Castle. Near Ledbury, Herefordshire. Midlands. UK.

A two-day outdoor event worth a visit if remote controlled planes, helicopters, ships, military vehicles, racing cars (including nitro powered cars) and other radio control vehicles are your thing.

Toy Collector's Fair
Birmingham National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. West Midlands. UK.

Although labelled as a toy collector's fair, this venue by D J Fairs actually caters just as well to model kit enthusiasts. This article gives insight on what you might expect to find at such an event.

Sandwell Historic Vehicle Show
Sandwell Valley Country Park, West Bromwich. West Midlands. UK.

Featuring many vintage and classic vehicles from this part of the world and entertainment from Sandwell Model Boat Club amongst other things.
