About Me

My name's Adam, I'm 30 and from the West Midlands region of England in the UK. I've been modelmaking and painting for around twenty years.Adam Bagley. Formerly Redditch, Worcestershire.
I remember becoming interested in the hobby by seeing my father's remote controlled Tamiya miltary models in action around the back garden. Add to this the heavy presence of models in films such as Star Wars and Jason and the Argonauts and TV series such as Doctor Who and Gerry Anderson's Captain Scarlet and it's easy to see why I got hooked.

I've come a long way since, learning through books, clubs and plenty of trial and error. I'm always happy to share my knowledge with others and I'm still as keen as ever to learn new things and to see how others approach their work. It's because of this that the HobbyShed modelling resource has been created with sharing in mind.

I hope you enjoy your time in the shed. Modeling.

Colour reference chart

Humbrol is one of the oldest model paint brands in Europe and is traditionally referred to in painting guides found on the assembly instructions for Matchbox, Airfix, Heller, MPM and other contemporary East European model kits.

The chart below lists colours from other paint standards and ranges (including airbrush colours produced by Gunze Sangyo and Testor's Model Master range) that closely resemble those produced by Humbrol. It is hoped that by using the following cross reference chart you can save yourself a bit of time and money and get the most from your existing collection by avoiding potentially unecessary purchases.

In the late 1990s Humbrol enamel paints evolved into the much improved Super Enamel range. The Super Enamel paints use the same colour reference numbers, but have a refined formula with very small pigment that's better suited to application by airbrush. However, with the introduction of Super Enamel some colours were discontinued.

Humbrol now produces a Colour System Binder which contains instructions for interblending the paints of the Super Enamel range to obtain the discontinued shades as well as a selection from their authentic colours range. Colours listed in yellow in the chart indicate that the corresponding paint number had been available in the traditional range but is not available in the Super Enamel range.

Please be aware that the alternative colours from other paint ranges listed here are suggestions as to which is the nearest colour in the current Humbrol range and are not necessarily an exact match. Note too that some Humbrol colours will require a coat of appropriate varnish to match the finish of some alternatives.
